Microneedling Aftercare: Day-by-Day Guide
What to do and avoid after microneedling, hour by hour, plus how many sessions it usually takes to see a difference.

Good microneedling aftercare is what turns a good treatment into a great result. The tiny channels your Dermapen session creates are how your skin rebuilds collagen, but they also make it more sensitive for a few days. Here is a simple, hour-by-hour plan you can follow at home after your appointment.
What is normal after microneedling
Right after treatment your skin will look pink to red, like a mild sunburn, and may feel warm and tight. Redness and swelling usually settle within about 48 hours, and light peeling or dryness can follow for a few more days (Healthline). Most of the visible healing happens in the first two days, while collagen keeps rebuilding under the surface for weeks.
The first 24 hours
- Keep your hands off your face, and wash them before touching it.
- Rinse with lukewarm water and a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser in the evening.
- Apply a plain moisturizer or hyaluronic acid.
- Skip makeup.
- Sleep on a clean pillowcase.
24 to 48 hours
- Keep using gentle products only.
- Wear mineral sunscreen any time you go outside, and avoid long sun exposure.
- Hold off on retinol, vitamin C, glycolic acid, AHAs, BHAs and scrubs.
- If you need makeup, wait until at least 24 hours and use clean tools.
48 to 72 hours
- Continue to avoid heavy workouts, saunas, steam rooms and pools, since sweat and heat can irritate healing skin.
- You can slowly bring back your regular products after two full days, starting with the gentlest.
The first two weeks
Sunscreen every day is the most important step. New skin is more sensitive to UV light, and protecting it helps prevent dark spots.
How many microneedling sessions do you need?
One session gives a fresh glow, but deeper concerns need a series. As a general guide:
- Acne scars: often 4 to 6 sessions, spaced several weeks apart.
- Fine lines and texture: a short series, then maintenance.
- Anti-aging maintenance: about 3 to 4 sessions a year.
Your microneedling before and after photos will show the biggest difference once you complete the series your esthetician recommends.
Dermapen, PRP or exosomes?
At Silueta Med Spa you can choose a classic Dermapen facial, a PRP facial or an exosome treatment. All three use microneedling. What changes is what goes on your skin during treatment. See prices on our microneedling page.
When to call a doctor
Contact a medical provider if you notice fever, spreading redness, yellow or green discharge, hives or bleeding that does not stop. These are not normal reactions.
Pair it with the right treatments
Between microneedling sessions, a gentle facial keeps skin clean and hydrated. For firming, ask about HIFU skin tightening. Questions? Call (281) 497-0888 or book online.
